Kara Odegard spent four years (2019 - 2022) using a collaborative leadership model to guide climate action planning for the City of Spokane. Her leadership resulted in a comprehensive climate action plan that was co-created by a large team of community stakeholders. Spokane’s plan and the process they developed now serves as a template for other municipalities developing their own climate action plans.
Katelyn (Katy) Scott was born and raised in the Spokane area, and has a life-long love for rivers and clean water. She went on her first canoe ride with her grandfather when she was just one year old, and fell in love with rafting at the age of 14. During law school, Katy spent her summers working as a whitewater rafting guide and kayak guide. Katy graduated from Wellpinit High School on the Spokane Indian Reservation, then obtained a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Washington, with a minor in Law, Societies, and Justice. She went on to earn a J.D., with a certificate in Public Interest Law from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. Prior to joining Spokane Riverkeeper, Katy worked in personal injury law, primarily serving plaintiff’s in Spokane County. In addition to working with Spokane Riverkeeper, Katy volunteers as a Washington Regional Coordinator for SheJumps and enjoys recreating in and around the area's mountains and rivers.
As Water Protector, Katy manages our Clean Water Defense and River Flow Protections (Water Conservation) programs, taking the lead on all things law and policy related.
