Come see a short film and ask your questions to Tribal biologists and officials who are leading the way in bringing Salmon Home!
The Spokane River and its tributaries like Hangman Creek were once home to thousands of salmon that returned home from the Pacific Ocean to spawn and start the cycle anew. Environmental destruction and the building of hydroelectric dams on the Columbia and Spokane Rivers blocked salmon for over a hundred years. This devastated the cultures of indigenous people who were stewards of these runs and devastated our River’s aquatic ecology. But now due to the leadership of the five Upper Columbia United Tribes (UCUT) with the Spokane Tribe and Coeur d’Alene Tribes leading the way in the Spokane Basin, there is hope again that salmon will be back forever. Come see the film produced by Riverkeeper on salmon recovery and then participate in a Q&A with Coeur D Alene Tribal biologists, Spokane Tribal Biologists, and the leadership of UCUT, DR Michel, to discuss how chinook salmon will soon be swimming again in our basin. Take the opportunity to learn how the technical aspects of this amazing recovery effort will take place and be inspired! Register to attend here.
